Popular Nigerian Comedian Basketmouth warned that the Independent National Electoral Commission may not conduct general election 2023 if hoodlums continue burning electoral body offices across the country.
INEC recorded fire incidence in it’s office across Nigeria in the past few days.
At least 20 INEC offices have been gutted by fire in the last two years, including four fire incidences in AkwaIbom, Abia three in Anambra and two in IMO.
Other fire incidence were recorded in Borno, Ebonyi, Jigawa, Kano, Ondo, Plateau and Rivers. Abuja was also affected.
While 11 offices were burnt by hoodlums, eight others were gutted under mysterious circumstances.
Basketmouth recently warned that the burning of INEC offices could give president Muhammadu Buhari’s government an excuse to stay longer if the commission is unable to conduct 2023 election.
Basketmouth shared a video on his Instagram page which says, “I have been reading the news and seen reports of INEC offices razed by fire. These guys are definitely upset with the way things are, and burning the offices. But what if INEC says due to burnt offices and materials they won’t conduct 2023 election, that means this government will continue to rule and your vex will last for long time.
With the way am looking at this country, fuel will increase drastically next year. If you keep burning the offices you will give them an excuse to stay in power.
